Funny Faces and Party Tricks

Hello again!
Here are some pictures of funny faces and antics Shea has been up to lately. Enjoy!

I just love this picture. It captures his essence, I think.

I think I may send this image to Peta. What do you think?

"I evicted Skittles from her cat bed because she couldn't pay the rent. Hey, these are tough economic times for everybody!"

"I'm practicing to be a member of Blue Man Group."
He was showing off to a friend's cute girlfriend. You never know what will work with the ladies.

"Is that dog doing what I think he's doing?"

"Why do you insist on taking pictures of me getting dressed, really?!"

"I was not NOT licking toads."
Seriously, is not one of the most innocent, yet devilish looks you've ever seen?

"I could rip this moo cow doggie toy to shreds in seconds...watch me!"
Another devilish look. We're collecting them and plan to show them at a gallery soon.

Fashion Sense

Hey everybody!
We're back!!! HOORAY! We finally resolved our computer troubles by wiping the darn thing clean - after backing everything up, of course - and reloading it from an external harddrive. So, I'm going to put away the prose and get on with the pictures. You've been waiting long enough. I'm putting up several themed entries, so keep looking throughout the day as Shea naps. Hopefully, I'll put up some video this weekend too! I've got some good antics and soundbites on film. Everything seems to be getting better and the sun looks like it's about to poke through the clouds. Hallelujah! Can I get an amen???

"Is this snow suit slimming? I like custom-fit garments. So much more functional than store-bought clothes!"

"I can work an outfit in any weather!"

"They say black goes with everything. I'm not so sure about the fit though."

"These boots fit much better. How do you like the stars? I'm not too keen on purple, though."

"You can never beat a pair of comfy sneakers though."

"Every good outfit needs accessories like a hat. A hoop for a hat, I say! It's seasonally appropriate. It is March Madness, after all!"

"However, the classic helmet never goes out of style. It could even go with the monkies on my pajamas!"

"Does this helmet go with these boots though? That is the question."

"I think it does, but I must have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque"

"Oops, I did it again!"

Undocumented Update

Hello everybody!
I wanted to fill everyone in on what has been happening in our lives lately. Shea's vocabulary grows and grows and his enunciation of words he already knows gets better each day. He's started putting words into short sentences too. His favorite phrase: "Go Outside?" It's too bad that he doesn't realize it's 30 friggin' degrees outside. Still, we bundle him up and put him in the stoller or backpack. He enjoys it for 5 minutes or so and then just waits for it to be over. Shea's also been exploring coloring (okay, making marks on paper) and climbing. He's testing us at every turn, whether it's putting the crayon against the wall and smiling at us, or climbing on top of anything and everything. Ah, the joys of raising an independent and curious child!

The reason we can't document any of these events is that the "security" features on our computer corrupted our photo software, deleting every digital picture we've ever taken. After much searching, I found them somewhere else on the harddrive, but wasn't successful at fully restoring them. All this has taken up so much space on the harddrive that I've gotta buy an external harddrive to backup the entire harddrive so I can fix things. So, please be patient with us until we can get things back in order. Also, our camera has not been working very well, including the autofocus not working, the lens getting stuck, and the flash operating on occasion.

In other news (pun intended), anyone reading the local papers these days knows what I've been going through lately at work (www.gloucestertimes.com - search for fishing articles). In short, the District Court in Boston just threw out regulations I helped write nearly 3 years ago, but didn't suggest replacement regulations, causing chaos and uncertainty in the fishery and everyone to blame my agency for causing the ruin of 400 years of fishing heritage. According to one journalist, me and my agency are Communist rogue minions colluding with the U.S. Coast Guard to wage war on righteous blue collar middle class innocents, dedicated to the complete ruination of everything holy to God and country. Let's just say, it's been a busy few weeks full of "interpretative" journalism and public rancor. I've been working long hours and weekends, with little time to pursue the 900 other things I've wanted to do - most importantly, spend time with my family. Needless to say, I'm exploring what other things I can do for the next 30 years that will provide us with a decent lifestyle, but allow me to enjoy it at the same time.

Luckily, I've been able to bang a few nails now and again - my type of therapy. Jess has been kind enough to take care of Shea for a few weekends when I haven't been working to allow me to frame out a playroom in the basement. I've been encasing the sewer pipes and water meter, putting storage shelves and bins underneath and building a closet behind the stairs. I'd show you pictures, but...I can't. I'll post some soon enough. It's coming along nicely and Shea likes to play among the studs and shelving units for now. I hope to get some sheetrock up shortly and finish it all up after a few more weekends of therapy. It'll look good, I promise.

Anyway, thanks for your patience. We'll keep you updated. I hope everyone is well!
Love,
Doug, Jess, and Shea

Winter Scenes

Winter in New England can be wicked beautiful (yeah, I used wicked in a sentence). That is, when it's not 12 degrees, sleeting, and blowing 30 knots. Winter can be a real pissa' sometimes. There haven't been too many days when it's been nice enough to go outside lately. Luckily, we've brought the camera out when it actually has been nice. So far, it's been the coldest winter we've experienced since we've been up here these past 6 years; it's heading to be one of the snowiest too. Today we got another 6 inches. Soon the backyard will be on level with the driveway with all of the snow I've been throwing back there.

I'm hoping to get some videos up of Shea's growing vocabulary. Every day seems to bring new words into his lexicon. Unfortunately, he's not interested in being our trained monkey, so we'll have to patch together clips when we're lucky enough to capture them on film. For now, here are a few pictures from some of our jaunts into the cold. I hope you enjoy!

Doug, Jess, and Shea

This stream is just beginning to freeze.

This one's getting closer, but is still free flowing.

This one wasn't so lucky.

It's amazing what nature can do with two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Thank goodness for crystal lattice structure! Yeah, I'm a dork. I did get a B+ in organic chemistry.

Today, we took a walk down Federal Street. Salem is gorgeous, even in winter.

Unfortunately, winter can take a toll on cameras. The auto focus stopped working during our walk. Perhaps that's a good thing. I'm probably more handsome this way.

Manual focus works just fine though.
"Ralphy! Wait up Ralphy!"

From this vantage point, I can peg you with snowballs all day! You're mine biatch!

A Walk In the Park

Hello everyone!
President Bush used one of his many unrestricted powers to do some good last week (wait, did I just type that?): He gave every Federal employee a day off on Friday. Unfortunately, I didn't think I qualified, as I was already scheduled off. However, thanks to the diligence of our time-and-attendance secretary, I got to leave early today to make up for that presidential privilege. So, here are the results: A new blog entry!!!

Here are a few pictures of a trip to the park we took with Shea Sunday afternoon. It was warm (60 deg.), but VERY wiiindy. Shea had a blast chasing after doggies - his favorite past time. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

In other news, Jess and I should be getting our new TV today - our Christmas present to ourselves. We got the smaller one (32") to maximize the decoration potential should we decide to either put it on the TV stand or hang it on the wall. We'll send pictures either way.

We hope you all enjoy your New Years! Have fun!
Love,
Doug, Jess, and Shea

Okay, where are the doggies at? Let me at 'em!

There's one!

That's not a doggie mama, that's a leaf!

"Well you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man: no time to talk."

See, I'm a woman's man: No time to talk!

Okay, so I like gnomes too!

HA! I got him!

Holidays with Shea

Hello everyone!
We hope you all had a Merry Chrismas! Here are some pictures of our Christmas. We spent the day at home, playing with toys and reading books. Shea seemed to prefer the nubby ball we bought him ($3) rather than the high-tech learning toys he also got. That's okay though, he enjoyed the day.

Shea continues to absolutely amaze us every day. He seems to learn a new word every day, sometimes even 2 or more a day. So far, I think Jess and I have counted a total of 31 or 32 words that he says that are definitive and we can understand. We're working on enunciation, but we get the message. If he keeps this pace up, he'll be smarter than us in no time! I'm going to work on getting some new video up soon.

We wanted to apologize for the delay in getting you all our Christmas cards. We just them sent out Tuesday. This year's holiday theme: Procrastination. We'll do better next year.
Love,
Doug, Jess, and Shea

Mama, hurry up and get to my favorite page...I want to hear about Mr. Gump's wump!

A 7 hump Wump! Oooo!

Ah ha! I got the red ball!

I wanna be part of the Blue Man Group when I grow up...if only my mouth was bigger.

I GOT A BALL!!! Who cares about the other presents. I don't even care that they put this bow on my head.

Yeah, I've been naughty!

Faces of Shea

Hey guys,
Here are some more pics of Shea while he's taking an extended nap. Hope you like them. Thanks to Mark, I now have some music to put as background for some older video clips. Hopefully, I'll get time to edit and post them soon, but please be patient. It's tough finding the time these days. Most of you will see some of these again shortly as we send out holiday cards. We're a little late though, sorry!
Love,
Doug, Jess, and Shea
Don't I look cute in this hat, Mama?

I do look remarkably cute, I do say!
Yeah, I'm a cutie!

FISH FACE!!!

Yeah, I pick my nose. SO WHAT?

I love this picture. So innocent!
